A Comparative Study Between Urban And Rural Areas On The Relations Between Field Cognitive Styles And Creativity Of High School Students In Guizhou Province

Field-dependent and field-independent cognitive styles are of great importance to individual' s mental development. With the deeply researching to the styles, the styles are gradually connected with creativity and are regarded as one of major factors which affect creativity. The 1158 high school students by chosen at statistics random sampling in urban and rural areas of Guizhou province are tested as subjects with Embedded Figures Test, it aims to inquire into the characteristics of both urban and rural high school students' field dependence-independence and the urban and rural difference; then 30% of high score students and 30 % of low score students in each class are sampled respectively in according to their score in the test of field dependence-independence. They are also tested as subjects with Creative Thinking Test, it aims to inquire into the effect of field dependence-independence upon creativity and the urban and rural difference. The results are as follow: l.'The trend of urban and rural high school students' field dependence-independence is still upwards, in other word, their field dependence-independence is developing with their aging. At the same time, the development of high school students' field dependence-independence reflects the difference of sex and the aspect of urban and rural areas and the difference of art and science; the correlation between field dependence-independence and learning performance is different in urban and rural areas, in other word, the rural high school students' field dependence-independence is positivecorrelated with their learning performance of Chinese and maths and English, the urban high school students' field dependence-independence is negative correlated with their learning performance of Chinese and maths and English. 2. In the test of creativity, the students of field independence are better than the students of field dependence in flexibility and originality and their total score of creativity. On the aspect of fluency, there is not obvious difference between the two groups in urban area, but there is obvious difference between the two groups in rural area; there is obvious sex difference inside each group of the urban and rural students in flexibility and originality and their total score of creativity, the male students have a higher score than the female students. But on the aspect of fluency, there is not obvious sex difference inside each group of the urban students, there is obvious sex difference inside each group of the rural students; there is not obvious difference between art and science students of different field dependence-independence in total score of creativity in urban and rural areas, there is obvious difference between art and science students of different field dependence-independence in three characteristics of creativity in urban and rural areas. This study will offer great help to the good teaching methods and the guide for students' performance and the improvement in students' creativity, especially to training more creative talents in rural and ethnic areas.
