| Listening is a very important part in English language learning, and the usage of listening strategies is the key point that influences students’ English listening.Field-independence/dependence students normally show different features in learning, and it is helpful for teacher to know FI/FD students’ listening strategies. Therefore,it is vital to study the relationship between field cognitive style and listening strategies. For this research purpose,200 students are investigated from Shandong Qingdao X Middle School.Data are collected through the Group Embedded Figures Test(GEFT)and listening strategy questionnaire. After that all data are probed through Description Statistics of SPSS22.0 in order to answer following questions: 1.What is ratio of FI/FD students? 2.What is the frequency of high school students using listening strategies? 3.Is there any correction between field cognitive style and senior high school students’ English listening strategies? 4.Is there any differences between FI/FD students when they use English listening strategies? If there are, what are the differences? After that,10 FI/FD students are interviewed for more information on their listening strategies.Through 188 effective samples, the author finds that: 1.There are more FI students than FD students.2.High school students sometimes use listening strategies.3.There are correction between field cognitive styles and senior high school students’ English listening strategies.4.FI students prefer using cognitive strategy, while FD students prefer using meta-cognitive strategy. There are not many differences between FI/FD students when they use social and affective strategy.Based on such research findings, the author provides some advice on teaching and learning English listening in senior high school.Firstly, teachers should focus on students. In daily English listening teaching, teachers should teach students how to use English listening strategies, and teach FI/FD students different listening strategies according to their field cognitive styles.Teachers should raise students’ confidence, and encourage students to use social and affective strategy in order to reduce students’ anxiety and nervousness before or during listening.Secondly, students should focuson themselves. They should know their field cognitive styles and use correct listening strategies according to their field cognitive styles. They should also try to use some listening strategies that they are not familiar with. Moreover, students should learn to do self-regulating to reduce their anxiety and nervousness before and during listening. In that way, students are expected to finish the listening task, improve their English listening skill and promote their development. |
