OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of psychology behavior training on stress level of submarine personnel and psychology quality of front-line health-care workers who had fought against SARS(severe acute respiratory syndrome) for 4 weeks.METHODS: In research one, 42 submarine personnel were chosen randomly and were divided into two groups, namely experimental group(n=14) and control group(n=28). Their average age was 22.55 4.42 years old. Before taking part in psychology behavior training, all the submarine personnel were asked to creep through a water-filled torpedo launching tube. We measured their BP(blood pressure) and pulse both before and after the task. Then the submarine personnel in the experimental group received psychology behavior training for one week. After training, all the submarine personnel repeated the task and we did the measuring work again. Changes of BP and pulse of the experimental group were compared with the control group. In research two, 131 front-line health-care workers ofXiaotangshan Hospital of PLA participated in the psychology behavior training for 10 days after fighting against SARS for 4 weeks. Among the health-care workers were 35 males and 96 females, whose average age was 30.55 7.21 years old. Then they were asked to fill in the inventories made by us, with which we could make out whether there was any change in their psychology quality after the training.RESULTS: In research one, (1) before the intervention of psychology behavior training, there was no significant difference in the changes of systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse before and after their "creeping through the water-filled torpedo tube" task(p>0.05). (2) After the training, the changes of the parameters above of experimental group before and after the same task were significantly lower than those of control group(p<0.05). In research two, (1) after psychology behavior training, the self-rating performances of all health-care workers was significantly higher than before(p<0.001). (2) there were significant differences in the performances changes of psychology quality on cognition about fear(p<0.05), bonding of the group(p<0.01), self-confidence and courage(p<0.01), reliance of the group(p<0.01) and willpower(p<0.01) between males and females. (3) there were significant differences in the performances changes of self-confidence and courage(p<0.05), willpower(p<0.05),and appetite and sleeping(p<0.05) among groups of different educational backgrounds.CONCLUSIONS: (1) Psychology behavior training can reduce the stress level of submarine personnel effectively when they creep through water-filled torpedo launching tube. (2) Psychology behavior training can improve the psychology quality of front-line health-care workers effectively. Gender and educational backgrounds has effect on the changes of psychology quality in a certain extent.
