A Experimental Research On Aggression In Implicit Social Cognition

Aggression is a familiar and devastating mental. In recently people start study its cognition which can control and educe aggression. Because there are many conflict between the social culture and aggression, aggression is oppressed in subconscious and has some trouble to display. Then this cognition factor should be including in implicit social cognition.My study expects to research the implicit social cognition in aggression by the Implicit Association Test (IAT) that was invented by Greenwald in 1998. In experiment, I designed two tests which are difference from the character of material, one is word, and the other is picture. The goal of the study is, if there is some bias to the aggressive material on the IAT; Comparing with the conclusion acquired by the other method previously on the implicit social cognition of aggression, if there are same characteristic in the bias; And it is same mental and the aggression acquire by the explicit measures.83 participants received the two IATs, and 54 participants received the explicit measures which include Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory , Aggression Questionnaire and aggression gene in DSQ. In the first IAT, the target concepts are manipulating aggressive and passive aggressive verbal; the second, target concepts are manipulating aggressive and passive aggressive pictures. In the two IATs, attribute concepts are both positive and negative adjective.The study acquired prospective result. The first, In the two IATs, the mass participants indicated distinctly more bias to manipulating aggressive than passive aggressive. It shows that people have some aggression on the implicit social cognition and the IAT is a good tool to measure it ; The second, The result shown, no gender difference on implicit social cognition of aggression, Which is similar and the conclusion acquired by the other method previously; The third, there are not remarkable correlation between the bias and the aggression acquired in explicit measures. It shown, there are two different aggressions on explicit and implicit cognition for us, and they are independent each other. The forth, the material and abstract concepts are both used to IAT; The verbal and picture material are both used to measure the implicit socialcognition of aggression. There were remarkable correlation between them.
