Anhua county lies in the mid-north part of Hunan. Anhua dialect belongs to Xiang dialect. The dialect of Anhua divides into three branches: Meicheng dialect, Dongping dialect and Yangjiao dialect. The treatise investigates and studies the dialect of Dongping. The treatise entirely describes and summarizes out the phonological system and characteristics of Dongping dialect, and hopes to offer some language materials for the further study of Anhua dialect and Xiang dialect.The treatise divides into five parts.The first part is introductions. This part introduces Anhua county and Dongping town's location, populations, historical course, situation of language being used and the condition of major informants.The second part is phonological system. In this part, we list the initials, finals and tone of Dongping dialect. Then, syllabary of homophones is made to give detail materials for understanding phonetic structure of Dongping dialect.The third part is phonological characteristics. This part describes the phonological characters of Dongping dialect, analyzes the rules of literary reading and colloquial reading and the differences between the middle age and the old.The forth part is the comparison between Dongping sound and Middle ancient time sound. How the middle ancient time sound develops in Dongping dialect can be discovered from the comparison.The fifth part is the comparison among Dongping dialect, Yiyang dialect and Xinhua dialect. In the comparison, the phonetic discrepancies among the three dialects above are displayed.
