Ningxiang County lies in the mid-northeast part of Hunan. The dialects of Ningxang County are complex. They divide into four branches: Chengguan(Yutan) dialect, Shuangjiangkou dialect, Huaminglou dialect and Liushahe dialect. The paper investigates and studies the dialect of Huaminglou. It entirely describes and summarizes out the phonological system and characteristics of Huaminglou dialect, and we hope to offer some language materials for the further study of Ningxiang dialects and Xiang dialects.The paper includes four chapters and an appendix.The first chapter is introduction. This part introduces Ningxiang county and Huaminglou town geography, populations, historical course, situation of language being used. It also introduces the present studies on the Ningxiang dialect, the emphasis and the main purpose of our research.The second chapter is phonological system. In this part, we list the initials, finals and tone of Huaminglou dialect, and describe the phonological characters of it. Then, syllabary of homophones is made to give detail materials for understanding phonetic structure of Huaminglou dialect.The third chapter analyzes the rules of literary reading and colloquial reading and the differences between the old age and the young.The forth chapter are the comparison among huaminglou dialect and the other three dialects of Ningxiang County, and the comparison among Huaminglou dialect, Changsha dialect, Shaoshan dialect and Xiangxiang dialect. In the comparison, the phonetic discrepancies among the dialects are displayed.The appendix is the comparison between Huaminglou sound and Middle ancient time sound. How the middle ancient time sound develops in Huaminglou dialect can be discovered from the comparison.
