On Translators' Transfer Competence

This dissertation concerns about transfer competence —— the core of translation competence. It is also a research of translation competence and translation teaching. The dissertation is focused on the analysis of differences of translators' transfer competence and aims to recommend a proper way from investigation to develop it in the future training. During the study, I retrospected previous researches of translation competence and transfer competence, built a new model of transfer competence, which is based on communicative view of translation, cognitive view of translation and PACTE's model of translation competence. Then I did an investigation about transfer competence. In the investigation, I proved existence of differences of transfer competence firstly and then did a questionnaire investigation. The design of questionnaire is based on the structure and contents of model of transfer competence I brought up previously. At last the analysis of collected data shows subjects' differences of transfer competence in detail. The result also shows translators' differences of transfer competence in their three stages of competence development. Based on investigation results, I concluded a training mode of transfer competence: Translation Teaching in Stages at last. In this training mode trainees can get special practices step by step according to their needs and shortages. Their improvements of transfer competence are sure to bring the improvements of their translation competence.
