With the development of research on psycholinguistics and foreign language teaching, more attention has been paid to the characteristics of the learners. This thesis intends to study the correlation between English learning motivation and learning strategies through a questionnaire survey conducted on two groups of students from Tianshui Normal University. The two groups of students are supposed to hold different motivation and therefore adopt different learning strategies. The analysis of this comparative study's result show whether learners' preference for certain types of teaming strategies is partially determined by their particular type of motivation.The first four chapters give an overall description of the present situation of this research area and provides a clear, multi-dimensional definition and classification for English learning motivation and learning strategies. This part lays a sound theoretical foundation for research and meanwhile puts forward the objectives and hypotheses of the study.Chapter Five reports an empirical study, which has been conducted by the author in the hope of testing the correlation between learning motivation and learning strategies. This part elaborates in detail how this research is designed and conducted, especially on how the questionnaire was designed.Chapter Six discusses and analyzes the results of the survey. The analysis can be divided into three parts: comparative analysis of the motivation, strategies and finally the correlation between the tow factors.Chapter Seven reports the conclusion and major significance of this study. At last, the author states some implications for classroom teachers.
