Study On Modern Metal Commemorative Coins And Medals

There are two concepts that close connected to each other in this thesis, one is commemorative coins ,the other is medals. Medal art was developed from com -memorative coin, medals are minted imitating the coins' way in the Renaissance period. Coins, commemorative coins and medals are designed in one traditional numismatic way in the mean time. Frenchman Hubert Ponscarme designed the first nude edge medal in 19th century by whom opened a new period of medal art, after the following 100 years, it became a peak of european art history by Jules-Clement Chaplain, Louis Oscar Roty and Dropsy family's effort. The revive of medal art not only a new peak in the history of art but also made these designers honor in official salon of Frence, medals became the model of coin shapes as well. Comemmorative coins art issued occasionally before modern credit system was found what's more it only for nobleman such as kings and dukes, since there is no regular machinery such as bank to take the event. And comemmorative coins also be used as same as money. As the finance system developing, gold,silver and comemmorative coins made in gold and silver became a kind of special money which has a par value that differs from the value. Because of the special property of comemmorative coins, design became the less important than the value.The modernization of the coins of China began in the last 40 to 50 years of Qing dynasty, and modern issue system formed in the end of seventies 20th century. The revolution in 19th century of China which leaded to the political and comercial revolutions made base of the coin and medal design system for nowdays, of cause some negtive facor today are response to the historical reason.for medals, the main value of the medal art is design, adding the sculptor's affiliation, styles dose the matter. And with a fine technical condition, coins may take a different way to medals.
