The Ostpolitik And The Reunification Of Germany

The Ostpolitik, which was produced by Willy Brant, was a practical way for West Germany to achieve its reunification. It was made under the international circumstance which detente was achieved between Soviet and America and the needs of domestic circumstance of West Germany.The core of the Ostpolitik was "seek changes by approaching". It first achieved the detente between the West and the East and made Soviet and America become flexible instead of confrontation. It made the two German countries enlarge the intercourses and approach each other. Finally, it created conditions for the reunification by the lasting approach.This thesis illustrates the background at home and abroad of the Ostpolitik. It also illustrates the contents and main characteristic of the policy. At last, It points out the Ostpolitik established the foundation for the reunification of Germany.Based on the historical analysis, the author sums up some enlightment. It is hoped that it is beneficial to the unification of our country.
