The objective of the paper is to analyze the in-depth musical thoughts embedded in the popular piano works composed by Chinese composers. All those works are commonly infused with aspects of Chinese modes and folk rhythms. My research shows that many piano pieces share similar musical materials, including melody, rhythms, intensity and mode that often inspired by the diverse Chinese culture and tradition. The paper discusses and summarizes some key characters of Chinese piano works including the musical nationalism and the Chinese spirit, the expression and transformation of cultural, artistic and intellectual tradition and the musical reproduction of the minority people's lifestyle and heritages. Piano was first introduced to China about a century ago. Although with a relatively short history, many Chinese composers and pianists have composed a large amount of masterpieces with unique Chinese style that can only be described as beautiful and brilliant. Their achievements have been recognized both in China and around the world.
