Language is the specific way for Man to express ideas, convey information. A good command of a language needs the training of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Among which the reading skill is one of the effective and direct way to obtain knowledge. Reading is the frequent activity in language application every day. Reading ability, therefore, becomes the basic, important training part in English language teaching.Since 1970s, educational experts and psychologists have made very important researches on teaching of English reading. They have revealed the essence of reading from the different points of view of behaviorism and constructivism. In the field of English teaching in China, the dominant reading theory is " the psycholinguistic model of reading" represented by Goodman and Smith. The psycholinguistic models of reading are, for instance, " the Schema theory ", " Top-down approach ", " Bottom-up approach " and " Interactive approach " through which the essence of reading comprehension has been further proclaimed from the view of cognition psychology and educational psychology. And this also offers us very important help in our later research of this area theoretically and practically.The education in Yunnan is underdeveloped. Many problems and difficulties still exist in College English teaching in Yunnan though lots of efforts have been made for many years.
