| According to both high school and college English teaching syllabus , the primary goal is to develop the students' reading ability . English reading skills are very important learning skills ,which are essential and fundamental to other language skills such as listening ,speaking and writing. In various tests, reading comprehension sector proves to be much more difficult and crucial than the other parts in the paper . In terms of college entrance examinations, reading comprehension in the English paper is increasingly hard to handle in recent years which is becoming a big challenge for English reading teaching .But the traditional method used in teaching reading which is "time-consuming but ineffective" is mainly structure-based; the focus of teaching is not on meaning but on language form and the class is teacher-centered. Students depend too much on the teacher and lack a sense of responsibility for their own learning. As a result, they often do a bad job in reading comprehension because of their poor reading ability .Thus, it is most urgent for English educators and teachers to research into "time-saving but efficient "model of English reading teaching.To achieve the goal ,under the direction of the theory of second language acquisition and other language teaching theories and on the basis of the author's experience of years of teaching ,the author of this thesis succeeds in constructing her own model of English reading teaching which is student-centered and meaning- focused. But the author maintains that it is most important for teachers to use this model creatively and flexibly. She also hopes that this paper may draw more attention to the field of the teaching of reading for a brighter future of English pedagogy. |
