The relationship between the teachers and the students is the most important factor in the English teaching process. Since the appearance of the English teaching, their relationship has been changing. It doesn't change at random, but changes according to certain theories such as the second language acquisition theory, humanism theory, personality factors, the social constructivist theory, communicative theory and so on. The gradually changing English teaching methods also embody certain conversion of the teacher-student relationship.In our country, although the quality education has been proposed for several decades, it hasn't been effectively carried out in higher education including college English teaching course. One of the reasons is that the traditional relationship between the teachers and the students has hindered its development. So a new type of relationship between the teachers and the students should be established to achieve the requirements of the quality education.This paper mainly includes six chapters. Chapter one is the introduction. Following it is the second part, which is about the background of the conversion of the relationship between the teachers and the students. It mainly includes five different kinds of theories, the traditional and now-existed English teaching methods and the enlightenment on the English teachers. Chapter three deals with the related contents of the quality education in colleges and universities. The fourth chapter is composed of two questionnaires: one is designed to get the information of the current college English teaching, which mainly focuses on the teacher-student relationship and the situation of the quality education; the other tries to show the students' own opinions towards the former two aspects.
