With the unrelenting globalization of the new economy and free-market,so division of labor has become a truly global phenomenon.Which lead to the making of a new industry——the supporting industry.The supporting industrial is a industrial which produces a wide range of product accessories,including peripherals and connectivity solutions for computer and consumer electronics users,cartoon hobbies,movie derivative products,etc.Product accessory is an added value that generally attached to some core products or a product system,in this case,it can be named added product.Along with the homogenization aggravating,manufacturers of all types are increasingly recognizing and implementing product accessory as an essential means of reaching new international audiences and of gaining competitive advantage.Which drives the supporting industrial into a period of prosperity,more than ever before.And countless product accessories expand into markets.To product design,it is necessary to make a study of product accessory for the sake of gaining the trend of future design.This paper is first and formost about the design of product accessories.It focuses on the following aspects ,how product accessory come to form,the meaning of product accessory design in current situation,theories to base the design of product accessory,the principles of product accessory design,and the train of thoughts to make product accessory design.Product accessory embody the individualization and diversification in consumer demand,and it need to grant the consumers' demands as much as possible.For the course of individualization and diversification is endless,only through making use of the product system flexibility can end that conflict,in which system approch is needed to make product design layout,so as to merge the accessory product into a product system.And the product users can participating design effectively by means of picking,replacing and composing product accessories.Thus analysing the product accessory from the angle of system theory and system design is a keystone of this paper.Furthermore, this paper put forward the added value gap in the design of product accessory,which crystallizes the train of thought and charts a direction for product accessory design.
