This thesis is a study on Chinese listening anxiety and coping ways of the elementary foreign students. The thesis reviews the studies on the listening anxieties by foreign and native researchers. This study used the Chinese Listening Anxiety Scale and Chinese Listening Anxiety Coping ways Scale designed by the author and the subjects are 45 elementary foreign students from Beijing Language University.The result shows: 1. The level of the Korean and Japanese students' anxiety on the Chinese listening classroom is higher than the occidental students'. If they are not good at Chinese grammar, they will get nervous easily. If Chinese is spoken too fast, the topic is unfamiliar or the exercise is too difficult, the foreign students will get nervous easily. But generally speaking, the negative evaluation will not make nervous for the young students. 2.The levels of the foreign students' listening anxieties influenced by the learners' backgrounds factors, that involve the different genders, nationalities, subjective listening competences, subjective anxiety level and their interesting. The subjective listening competences and the listening anxieties levels are significantly negatively correlated, and the subjective anxiety levels and the listening anxiety levels are significantly positively correlated. 3. Most coping ways used by foreign students are mature, positive ones, such as listening to the talk between the teachers and the students, and chatting with the classmates who have better listening comprehensions. The foreign students do not often use some kinds of coping ways, such as relaxation.This thesis involves six parts: the first part is the cause and significance of this thesis; the second part is the literature review; the third part is the theoretical foundation; the forth part is the study' design; the fifth part is the result and the analysis; the sixth part is the discussion.
