Marcel Proust is the most important writer of 20th century in France. In his magnum opus A la recherche de temps perdu, he builds us a impersonal and real world in postmodern sense, and behind the trivial details hides his deep consideration on the essence of human's being.A la recherche de temps perdu, which not only contains the writer's mostly experience of his life, but also expresses his aesthetic opinion and philosophic conception, almost spans Proust's whole writing career, so discussing the theme of the novel is a question that we can't blench in studying on Proust's art and thought. But when we try to unscramble its' theme, we'll first meet the antinomy that there is a huge contradiction between magnificence, delicacy and being short of polt in the novel. The contradiction urges us to explore the novle's deep theme-time through its' polt.Proust's taking the time as the theme of the novel is not incidental, the reason why he does so is due to his particular life experience and philosophic conception. First, illness and sensitive personality makes him used to live and write in memory, and also especially concentrate on elements such as remote feelings and moods which compose the time.
