In China, a great number of students have kept learning English. They can receive a lot of language input, but when it comes to language performance some of them may meet with difficulties. The fact that they are unable to use English efficiently and effectively is partially due to the lack of sufficient language production. So teachers and students need to search for ways to facilitate the efficient and effective use of English. The Length Approach, initiated by Wang Chuming from Guangdong Foreign Studies University, is a brand-new approach to English teaching and learning in China. Based on a one-term-long experiment, Wang Churning claims that writing long compositions can facilitate second language performance. Does the approach fit for non-English majors, too? The present research is undertaken to find out: (1) can the participants make achievements through the Length Approach experiment? (2) how the subjects will feel about writing long compositions through questionnaires?Based on output hypothesis of L2 acquisition and the notions of the Length Approach, an experiment of the effects of the Length Approach on L2 learning is undertaken by the author.
