Metacognitive Strategy Training And Maintenance In College Students' Development Of English Listening

Metacognitive strategies have been proved to be the higher-order executive skill, which play a critical role in language learning. There is a close correlation between metacognitive strategies and language learning proficiency. Through training, those strategies can be learned and correspondingly impact language learning proficiency. Due to the importance of listening among the basic foreign language skills, how to improve college students' use of strategies in their development of English listening so as to improve their English listening proficiency has long been a concern of researchers and foreign language teachers. Correspondingly, there have been numerous studies on the training of college students' use of metacognitive strategies in listening. But up to now the maintenance of effects from such training has not yet been given enough attention, which should be a very important issue to consider.This thesis reports a tentative study for solving such a problem from the viewpoint of training metacognitive strategies in college students' English listening development.
