In practice, school consultants found that some students had rigid or ultra views over things. Such views called "dysfunctional thoughts" may lead to psychological problems. According to the present study, dysfunctional thoughts, which will bring us some problems in different life areas, are defined as "sick, false, or unreasonable" thoughts that cause the appearance of maladjustment and what's more the emotion disordersBased on the following studies, researchers are trying to discover the content and structure of dysfunctional thoughts of elementary and middle school students as well as their status quo so as to explore the structural relationship.Study 1: Literature review, interview and questionnaire were employed to develop the dysfunctional thoughts scale of elementary and middle school students. At the same time, the structure of dysfunctional thoughts was identified after the participation of 1307 students in the research altogether.Study 2: 851 elementary and middle school students completed the dysfunctional thoughts scale developed in study 1. Based on the data, the researcher explored the status quo of the dysfunctional thoughts in elementary and middle school students, especially the gender and age differences of the dysfunctional thoughts.Study 3: 181 students participated in this study. Questionnaire and structural equation modeling (SEM) were employed to explore the structural relationship between dysfunctional thoughts and influencing factors including some-personality-factor, stress events, goal orientations and parenting styles.Summarizing the results above, we get the following conclusion:(1) The structure of the dysfunctional thoughts in elementary and middle school students is a five-factor model including "self-defence", "demanding for best treatment", "over-perfectionism", "passive attitude" and "attention-seeking", in which egotism is the prominent characteristic.(2) The dysfunctional thoughts scale of elementary and middle school students developed in this study shows sufficient reliability and validity, which proves its utility in further investigation.(3) The status quo of the dysfunctional thoughts in elementary and middle school students is beyond optimistic, in which "demanding for best treatment" and...
