In this thesis, the author takes the summary of the research achievements of the predecessors as a basis and the Marxist historical materialism as a guide. He makes a complete and comprehensive research into the contents and characteristics of the national ideology and the policies towards nationalities during the reign of Emperor Hanwu with the aid of historical documents and by means of the analysis of historical materials. He hopes to bring to light the inevitability for the national ideology to come into being and the reasonability of the policies towards nationalities during the reign of Hanwu and sheds light on the historical influence of the national ideology and the policies towards nationalities in that period.The ruling period of Emperor Hanwu was an important stage of the Western Han and his "Conquest of Four Ancient Tribes" was an important part of his exploits. This conquest performed a profound influence on all aspects of the social life at that time. To exactly explain the social influence of the policies towards nationalities during the reign of Emperor of Hanwu is helpful for us to understand the history of the Western Han and many problems in the history of the ancient nationalities in China. Therefore, the author is bold to sort out and analyse the national ideology and the policies towards nationalities during the reign of Emperor Hanwu on the basis of reading the documents and correlated research.The Han dynasty was a period for the establishment and development of the feudal unified domain. All the systems had been considered and tried. It was with the guide of "the unified domain" that Emperor Hanwu worked out the policies towards nationalities suitable to the feudal ruling and made the country unified. He set up unprecedented achievements in opening up and management and had a profound influence on the national ideology and the policies towards nationalities of the feudal rulers of later ages.
