A Study On Feminist Translation Theory

Since the 1980s, western translation studies has experienced what has been called the "cultural turn". And this turn in translation studies has prepared the terrain for a fruitful encounter with feminist thought.Feminist movement has gone through two climaxes. The first lasted from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century, aiming at striving for women's property rights, election rights and the rights for receiving education. The second appeared in the 1960s to the 1970s and focused on criticizing sex discrimination and patriarchy. As an ideology, feminism takes "gender" as a basic point of penetration. It remains committed to the investigation of the reason why women are thought to be inferior to men in history and society and challenges the traditional patriarchal society.The modern western feminist thought was first introduced into China by Professor Zhu Hong in the 1980s and has exerted great influence on the academic circles. Researchers in the translation circle have gradually realized the influence of feminism on translation studies and begun to publish articles to discuss the issue. Feminism brings the aspect of "gender" into translation studies and can help us to rethink the relationship between the original and the translated text, the issue of fidelity and that of the translator's invisibility. But comparatively speaking, not enough attention has been given to feminist translation studies here in China Thus this thesis tries to explore the relationship between feminism and translation and make a brief but comprehensive introduction to feminist translation theory in order that people will become more interested in and pay more attention to feminist translation.Besides Introduction and Conclusion, the thesis has four chapters.
