Virginia Woolf, one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century, is generally considered as a forerunner of the Western feminist writer expert in the writing technique of stream of consciousness, and has won an unfailing popularity among critics. The present thesis intends to explore her adroit combination of the theme of the Great War with her literary works. Taking the historical events as a starting point, the paper tries to explain in detail the feminist thought in Virginia Woolf's novels and literary criticism and disclose her angry condemnation of the war. The author of this paper expounds from the three aspects of sexual conflicts, the game of war and the dream of unity of the society on how Woolf as a female under the oppression of a patriarchal society exposes this cruel war, the scourge of human beings, which women were thrown in as well. Woolf succeeds in showing her keen interest in the society, the Great War and the women's social status with her unique feminine creative power, her aspiration for an equal and harmonious society in her literary works, which has dealt a powerful counterattack against the criticism of her as an aloof writer in the "ivory tower".
