A Study On The N4A And The Anti-Japanese United Front In Anhui

During resent twenty years, there was some discussion in academic circles about the Anti-Japanese united front of the N4A in Anhui, but not detailed and complete. They didn't perform analysis on it's circumstances, didn't give prominence to it's characteristic and it's creative spirit. There were debates about some problems. The author observed and studied the N4A how to carry out the united front policy and tactics to the masses of the people, intellectual, friendly forces, local armed force, enemy and puppet army, overseas personage. The author observed and studied the circumstances about the united front activity of the N4A in Anhui , appraise afresh the problem of Xiang Ying in united front, the problem of Changjiang Bureau directing Anhui united front, the problem of counterattacking friction in Yu-Wan-Su Base.As a result of observe and study, the author deem: at the beginning of the war of Resistance Against Japan, Anhui was enemy's rear area or semi- enemy's rear area, the power of the diehards was strong. Anhui belonged to the different war zones, easy to use the contradiction. But the intermediate strata were feeble. When the N4A carried out the united front activity, they attached importance to both upper levels and lower levels, paid attention to social relationship, paid attention to the concealment and secret work in diehards army. The united front of Anhui Base went through from different to identical in thought, from multi-leadership to unified leadership. They took advantage of the favourable conditions of geographical distribution, economy, culture. Adopted the form of maintaining independence and keeping the initiative and legal struggle. When they were unsuccessful in counterattacking friction, transferred troops to the favourable area.Xiang Ying persisted in principle of maintaining independence and keeping the intiative. He was on high guard against the diehards, he paid attention to the quality of troops but gave not enough attention to the quantity. He advocated reforming the old regime, but he didn't put forward establishing democratic regime .He prepared for counterattacking friction, but he didn't struggled openly.
