Tone Sandhi Of Haimen Dialect

The study of tone sandhi is very popular in Chinese dialects study. From 1950the general investigation of dialects all over the country, there have been lots ofpapers on dialects tone sandhi publishing on succession. Till now, most dialectsin every dialect area are described and analyzed. But Haimen dialect which is asmall point in Wu dialect is not described in very details. As a native speaker, Icollect a great lot of materials of the dialect and use the Praat, a useful softwarefor sound analysis, to describe the tone sandhi of Haimen dialect.The first chapter is a prolegomenon. First introduce the location, history,culture and custom of Haimen. Second, look back the study of tone sandhi.Then introduce Haimen dialect and the system of initial consonant, vowel, andtone. Last is the way how to study the tone sandhi of this dialect.The second is on the analysis of the tone sandhi of two words group. We foundthat there is a rule in both groups when the words are read together, in whichthe first tone is the most important, and its tone would spread to the secondtone. The tone sandhi in three words groups are very similar with thecorresponding two words groups.The third chapter is about the tone sandhi of three words group in Haimendialectd. We found something similar when we study the two words group. Thetone sandhi in three words groups are very similar with the corresponding twowords groups.In the last chapter, we conclude the situation that each tone in differentpositions.
