| Since the 1960s, the literary theory in the west has been very active. Some of thenew theories of literature have provided new angles of viewing and new ways ofresearching not only for the literature but also for the translation. Aesthetic ofReception is one of the literary theories which have close connection withtransla tion. To use the ma in concepts of Aesthetic of Reception in translation and toresearch the translation from the angle of the reader are a good way of researchingtranslation.Hans Robert Jauss is one of the outsta nding representatives of Aesthetic ofReception. He starts with the paradox of the literary history with the horizon ofexpectation which is his most important concept. He calls the horizon ofexpectation the backbone of Aesthetic of Reception. In his later research, Jaussdraws his attention in aesthetic experience. To use Aesthetic of Reception intranslation makes a new way of researching translation from the angle of the reader.Chinese ancient poem is a splend id pearl in the world literature. Under itsoutsta nding appearance, Chinese profound historica l culture which it containsmakes it more marvelous. How to translate Chinese ancient poem properly anddeliver the culture it contains in order to make it easier to receipt has become aquestion to the translator. This paper deals with one part of translating Chineseancient poem------the translation of image. The ima ge takes an important placeboth in the histories of Chinese literature and Chinese culture. The ima ge, anindispensable factor of Chinese ancient poem, constructs the artistic mood ofChinese ancient poem. The ima ge is the combination of the emotion of the poet, theobject and the background of the history and the society, so it becomes the carrierof Chinese profound culture. Transla ting ima ge is one parts of translating Chineseancient poem. Whether translated the ima ge appropriately affects the wholetranslation of the poem.Many of the theories of translation ignore the reception of the reader. At the sametime, they do not notice the transla tor should use different ways of translationaccording to the reader's reception. To use Jauss'Aesthetic of Reception intranslation mea ns the transla tor should employ various ways of translationaccording to the reader's reception.This paper induces the ways of translating the ima ge in Chinese ancient poemthrough some examples, and at the same time uses Jauss'Aesthetic of Reception toexpla in each of them. Through the analysis, we will see which level each of theways of translation does achieve from the angle of the reader of the translation. This paper uses the main concepts of Jauss'Aesthetic of Reception, like thehorizon of expectation, to describe the ways of translating the image in Chineseancient poem. In the progress of translating the image in Chinese ancient poem, thetranslator should try the best to deliver the meaning contained in the image by usingdifferent ways of translation in order to exchange culture. |
