Pearl S. Buck, a recipient of Noble Literature Prize, was an American woman who had lived in China for about forty years. She was one of the earliest writers who had worked hard for the communication between China and the West in early 20'" Century. Compare to other writers, Pearl was significant for that she was the earliest one who had found the possibility of the communication between China and the Western and had done a lot for it, and she was one of the earliest writers who had objectively viewed the relationship between the west and the east. Whether on historic or realistic view, the research on Pearl S. Buck and her works about China was inspiring. This paper analyzes the characters in THE GOOD EARTH TRILOGY by Pearl S. Buck and assumes that Mrs. Buck, from her unique perspective, saw a "dynamic China" and introduced it to the West. She managed to pass her thoughts on the problems about the future of Chinese peasants, Chinese countries and China as a whole. I believe, although Mrs. Buck had some mistakes in her viewpoints about China, her original intention and achievements are recognizable, and worth being studied.
