| Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973), as a controversial American writer, has written many littterary works. In 1938, Mrs. Buck won the Nobel Prize, being the first female winner in America, at the same time, she is also an advocator of feminism in words and in deeds. She is concerned about women's problems in China. In her works, she also explores their fate ,status and self-realization.In China, people have made studies on her from different angles, which is a special contribution to"Studies on Pearl Buck". Study on feminist consciousness in Mrs. Buck's works is of historic meaning, although a controversial one. As a female reader, I will choose such an aspect to discuss the importance of Pearl S. Buck in the field of feminism. Since the brilliant success of The Good Earth makes it be one of the most representative works in her life, the author will try to re-examine O-lan etc.'s feminist consciousness.In the first chapter, the author mainly introduces background of Pearl Buck, including historical, cultural and familial background, at the same time, also introduces female characters in her works. In the second chapter, the athor analyzes female images in The Good Earth. In the third chapter, the author analyzes male images from patirarchy and the authority of husband in The Good Earth. In the forth chapter, the author analzses constuction of female subject consciousness from marriage concept and family concept. The conclusion of this thesis brings a brief summary of the whole thesis.This thesis does not attempt to give a comprehensive evaluation of Pearl S. Buck's literary works. Instead, it only analyzes objectively the authenticity of her description of Chinese women in long-term man-oriented society in the topical novel The Good Earth. Though it is difficult for feminism to develop, the development of feminist literatures have still achieved a lot. In my opinoin, in this surrounding, it will be fruitful to do some studies on Pearl Buck from feminist aspect.
