As one of the Germany composer of 19th century, Brahms took an significant role in the world music history. The composition for instrument of the 19th century was towards two different direction. Mendelsssohn, Chopin and Schumann were on behalf one of the direction, they kept close relationship with Classicism in chamber and symphony. But in the solo music, they merged the great expression and imagination with a new short form and gave excellent explanation with the most poetic characters of Romantic. Along with the death of Shuman, this kind of Romantic had gone to its destination, and Liszt, Wagner, Berlioz were on behalf the other direction. These composers who were not interested in chamber and symphony had great interests in structure, tone and form of the philharmonic orchestra. They revealed the character of the extremely splendid and gorgeous of the Romanticism. However, in the period which was engulfed by the Romanticism, there was an unmoved composer who preferred the opposite trend——Brahms.This article will be started with the analyse of his late works Piano Pieces Op.118, and through the analyse by the playing interpretation, harmony, form of every piece to discuss Brahms's piano music style and characteristics. The musician---Brahms was the new Classicism of the Romanticism and subjectively the successor of the Classic. He also had close relationship with Classic musicians of German, such as J.S.Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. At the same time, the new elements which could be not find in the traditional works emerged in Brahms's music. This is the mainly reason that lots of theorists called him as"The last one of the classicism of German","The old bottle of the Classicism with the new wine of the Romanticism". Brahms had very different seek in forms and contents of music compared with the other composers who was in the same time, so the music works of Brahms has his own special style.
