| Chinese characters have become a barrier to Chinese study for foreign students, especially for western students. Meanwhile, as Chinese characters are different from the alphabets of Indo-European languages. Chinese character teaching lags behind the other teaching tasks, which has to some extent affected the teaching quality as a whole. In view of this situation, we established the database of wrongly written/used characters by western students by extensive lingual materials with the purpose that an academic platform can be formed in order to achieve a significant breakthrough and innovation in TCSL.I focused on introducing the establishment process and basic framework of the database of wrongly written/used characters by western students, as well as its structure of user's functional modularity in this Paper. There are three corpuses in this database: the corpus of scanned texts, the corpus of wrongly written/used characters and the corpus of the writers'attribution. In addition, we designed different ways to mark the wrongly written, misused and nonstandard characters, based on which, we also perfected the frequencies, types and other statistical functions of our database.Upon the Database, we made a preliminary survey on the wrongly written and misused characters, and summed some universal laws about the miswritten characters by western students of middle and high levels, i.e. wrong writing is the main type of their errors, and its frequency declines while the frequency of misused characters increases with their knowledge of Chinese language being promoted. Additionally, we further made tables of high-frequently wrongly written, misused characters and nonstandard character, of the types of high-frequently wrongly written characters and high-frequently misused Pianpang, which are all based on our statistics. In order that we could provide some experience to our colleagues in the field of TCSL. |
