The Systematic Study Of Phonetic Signs In Modern Chinese Frequently-used Pictophonetic Characters

The thesis, according to systems theory, analyzes the phonetic signs of pictophonetic characters in Frequently-used Characters' form of Modern Chinese, using structure-function method. The phonetic signs are divided into two parts: configuration and indicating pronunciations. Then the paper shows the source of diachronic style and synchrony indication function. It also shows the features of phonetic signs and makes a frequency form of phonetic signs that can be used in teaching area.The primary link of the research is to find out the pictophonetic characters from the common ones and analyzes them. The analysis of characters source is according to not only Analytical Dictionary of Character's Pictographs and Meaning written by Cao Xianduo and Su Peicheng but also Textual Criticism of Shuo Wen Jie Zi. After that I get the total number of pictophonetic structure and phonetic signs.The focal point of the thesis is to analyze the two parts of phonetic signs concerned in the. first paragraph. I conclude the five source of the phonetic signs in modern chinese pictophonetic characters and give out the rank definition in research of configuration. In the analysis of show pronunciation, the relation between the phonetic signs and the pictophonetic characters is including four types: same in initial and final, same in initial, same in final and same in initial and final but different in medial. Then I make a quantitative analysis about the condition that one syllable using not one chinese character as phonetic signs and one phonetic sign indicating not one pronunciation.On the basis of quantitative analysis about phonetic signs indicating pronunciation, I find out three factors affecting indication:the relationship between phonetic signs an pictophonetic charactors, quantity of pictophonetic charactors and frequency of them. Then I get the frequency system of phonetic signs making use of the concept of integration in math.I give out the table about frequency system of phonetic signs in appendix. I also compare the pictophonetic characters with the enemy characters and both of them have the same phonetic signs. I hope the table can provide some help to teaching area.
