Some disyllabic verbs in the Chinese language are separable; one can insert other elements between them. These verbs are called separable verbs. The majority of separable verbs are composed of the "V +O " structure and this is also the main topic of this research. Because of its peculiar usages—the capability of being combined and separated, foreign students often find it hard to learn and always avoid separating them in their output, which has come to the attention of Chinese teachers. Many efforts have been made to investigate this field, but it's a pity that most of them are focusing on the grammar proper or just the errors students make. Therefore, it's necessary to pay more attention to the learners and their interlanguage. This research, based on the SLA theory, uses survey study, including two tasks: Grammarticality Judgment and Translation, to elicit characteristics and sequence of acquisition of separable verbs and the problems emerging from this course. Data, which are all put into computer and analyzed through SPSS11.5, are first compared between the two groups—Chinese group and Foreign group. Then foreign subjects are divided into three levels and their data are analyzed respectively . According to these outcomes , we evaluates if the textbooks are properly arranged and meanwhile, gives some suggestions to the textbook edicting and teaching.
