Preliminary Study On The Music Education Guided By Monoculturalism-dominated And Multiculturalism-mingled Idea In Huaqiao University

Huaqiao University is under the direct leadership of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council based on the school policy of "orienting to overseas, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and the economic zones in the west bank of the Straits". With the purpose of "serving the overseas Chinese and spreading the Chinese culture", the teaching has characterized with "one school with two types of students, who are educated according to their aptitude" . Against the backdrop of globalization, the multicultural education in music has attracted increasing attention; while Chinese traditional music is becoming a force to be reckoned with. In accordance with the general situation in Huaqiao University, the author brings forward the Monoculturalism-dominated and Multiculturalism-mingled idea in music education. This is an initiative conception and is expected to become an education pattern next. The questionnaire survey is conducted to diagnose the knowledge of Chinese and world traditional music among the overseas Chinese students in Huaqiao University; on the other hand the interview, history and literature are undertaken to investigate the curriculum development in the school. All these are done to set forth the importance and pertinence of Monoculturalism-dominated and Multiculturalism-mingled idea in music education. Its theory is elaborated on the base of philosophy, history period, and realism.The author goes on to show the feasibility when carrying out the education guided by the idea. In the end the signification of the idea is expounded focused on the teaching principle.
