This paper takes the creation of Alai's novels as the object of study, regards all Alai's published works from 1989 to 2007 as a whole and sorts creations of Alai's novels comprehensively so as to analyze contemporary history of Jiarong villages in Alai's novels. And the prototype images in Alai's novels are refined and Jiarong Tibetan mythology and legends are compared in order to unscramble the cultural appeal in Alai's novels. On the basis of the above two points,it proposes that Alai's "margin" means not only the geography verge but also the cultural verge. The essence of Alai's novels creations as a "marginal writing" is his perspective and contemplation of his own ethnic group culture and human universal significance. This paper is divided into three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. Introduction begins with a common phenomenon of human culture--seeking root and points out that seeking root is not only a trace to all nations and ethnic groups culture, but also an answer needed by mankind facing survival difficulties when they enter the modern society, which are particularly reflected in the cultural appeal of ethnic group minorities culture as well as in the study of Alai's novels creations. There are three chapters in the body of the paper. Chapter I Losing root: The history of contemporary Jiarong Tibetan villages in Alai's novels. An arrangement of Alai's novels in this chapter divided into three historical periods of writing carrying on the analysis to explain that Alai's writing records a grief history of their own ethnic groups culture in the cultural communication and the dash, reconsidering the vicious nature which his own culture has. Chapter II Seeking root: Ethnic group myths prototype and the elements of Alai's novels.Through cultural comparison, it reverts Jiarong ethnic groups'cultural identity in Alai's works. Simultaneously, this chapter analyses the reappearance and rewriting of ethic group myths in Alai's works and points out that Alai is comparing the current survival situation of his own ethic group by the myths containing the concise and sensible wisdom; the loss of beliefs and the lack of culture will bring out the disaster so as to reflect the mankind survival lost. So it can be seen that Alai considers the existence of their own ethnic group and human society. Chapter III Marginal walking: A possible taking root. It points out the significance of walking to Alai's creation from geography and culture and that marginal writing is one kind of possible taking root bought forward by Alai as an intellectual of Jiarong group who pondered the plight of their own ethic group and human culture from the relationship between margin and intellectual's responsibility and role.
