Geographically speaking, Zheng Ping dialect is a branch of Luo-Song district in Henan dialect, which consists of 22 initials, 35 finals and four types of tone. There is no expatiatory description of Zheng Ping dialect in the relevant data and materials, and the current studies consider it as a branch of Zheng-Bian district in Henan dialect. The thesis is a research on Zheng Ping dialect through description of its phenomenon of "r-ending" and contrast with circumjacent dialect. The r-ending of Zheng Ping dialect is the type of retroflex-vowels-r-ending, which is of great difference with Zheng-Bian dialect and has less retroflexions than that of the Mandarin. The author tries to clarify the formation of retroflexions from "r"-fore-syllable affected by "r" pronunciation [(?)]. Because of the small quantity of retroflexions, in Zheng Ping dialect, the are many homophonic phenomenon and a lot of tonal-modification-phenomena especially in Yinping. There are also internal differences in r-ending of Zheng Ping dialect. It can be differed as east district and west district, among which the former one is close to Nanyang City and Zheng-Bian district in pronunciation. The author deems that it is more reasonable to consider Zheng Ping dialect as a branch of Luo-Song district based on the conclusion get from comparison that r-ending of Zheng Ping dialect is similar with that of Luoyang district and part of Shanxi district geographically and closer to the pronunciation of Luoyang district. The linear distribution of r-ending pronunciation among Zhengping, Luoyang, southern part of Shanxin, and south-west area of Shan'xi can be an evidence of migration in history which coincides with the route of the migration in Ming Dynasty. The grammar of Zheng Ping dialect, especially in noun, adjective and verb is also affected by "r-ending" in part of speech, pragmatics and sentence-formation function. The thesis includes four parts: introduction, actual description and phonetic mechanism analysis of "r-ending", synchronic and diachronic comparison of "r-ending" and the influence of "r-ending" in grammar.
