| Idiom is a peculiar constituent of the language vocabularies which can reflect the history,geography,social thought,religional belief and living patterns of the nationality,especially in Idioms on diet.Diet is an important life condition of human beings,which cannot be lacking in the human life,like Chinese people said"民以食为天"(To the people foodstuff is all-important)and Thai people said (Eating is the most important matter).Chinese and Thai idioms on diet are universally acknowledged and famous. They have their own distinctiveness,which can be seen in the differences of their kinds of food and drink,the culinary art,food habits and food taste.For example,the kinds of Chinese staple food are numerous,such as rice,noodles,steamed buns, Chinese pastry,etc.,while Thai staple food are some kind of rice,such as rice, glutinous rice.This can reflect the individual food and drink culture of the two countries,natural environment and their living styles.This thesis emphasized on the comparison of Chinese and Thai idioms on diet. The scope of the idioms here means the behavior of eating,like eat,drink,swallow, and staple and non-staple food,beverages,culinary art,seasonings,kitchen ware,and taste of food.The researcher would use the grammar study to summarize and describe their grammatical structures and functions of the idioms,and use their message content to classify their meanings.The researcher would also draw the cultural linguistic and language across culture study to analyze their national cultural meanings.The researcher hopes that the research of Chinese and Thai idioms on diet will encourage the learners to understand the characteristics and meanings of the idioms on diet,the traditional culture,and social customs of the two countries.It also is helpful to the teaching of the words and expressions in cultural terms;help Chinese and Thai people to understand each other and the two countries of cultural exchange. |
