In the 20th century, a separate faction Schenker music theory, which is different from the traditional mode of thinking, deoxidize the music to simplify the initial form of the basic structure of the future, the omissions become an extension of the personality of each of the first performance of works. Therefore, the works on the prolongation of representation is common in the search for individuality in the process.The essay deals with the kernel of Schenker music theory which has two functions---the structure and prolongation in the first part, it also surveys of Schenker music overall Characteristics . In the second part, it analyses the pause of Brahms piano works in three parts which is from Schenker music theory --- a chord played forte, A combination of two and the pause which composes of Schenker's form and traditional elements of melody, to pursue more pauses. In the third part, it summarizes the superiority, openness and limitations of Schenker's works, then it summarizes the pause of Brahms piano works. it tries to watch the relationship between elements and the whole music, making explorations into influences and far-reaching significance which made by Schenker's works.
