Optimism is a positive psychological quality. As a subjective experience, optimism was highly interested recently in Psychology, especially in the Positive Psychology.Through the study, we investigated the present situation of optimism quality of the junior high school student, examined the relation between the optimistic explanatory style and dispositional optimism, examined the relation between optimism quality and mental health, examined the class-based optimism group counseling whether can improve the optimism quality and mental health。The study had two parts:Study 1: The investigation of optimism quality of the junior high school studentObject : Object of the study was to investigate optimism quality of the junior high school student, examined the present situation of optimism quality of the junior high school student, further examined the relation of the optimistic explanatory style and dispositional optimism, and the relation among the optimistic explanatory style, dispositional optimism and mental health.Evaluation tool:《The Life Orientation Test-Revised》;《Child Attribution Style Questionnaire》;《mental health scale for China junior high school student》.Conclusions: (1) Comparison shows that there was no significant difference on gender in the scoring of optimism. The one-child's scoring of optimism was significantly higher than that of non-only-child. The student leaders'scoring of optimism was significantly higher than others. The scoring of optimism of who has more friends was significantly higher than others. (2) Dispositional optimism had a significant positive correlation with optimistic explanatory style. (3) Junior high School Student's optimism quality and the level of mental health were positively correlated. The more optimistic individual was, the higher the level of mental health .Study 2: Class-based optimism group counseling for junior high school studentObject: Based on the view of Positive Psychology, this study was designed to improve the optimism quality and mental health of the junior high school student by class-based optimism group counselingEvaluation tool:Objective evaluation:《The Life Orientation Test-Revised》;《Child Attribution Style Questionnaire》;《mental health scale for China junior high school student》.Subjective evaluation:《Summary of the Class-based optimism group counseling》;《Evaluation for the group counseling activity》;《Evaluation for the guidance teacher》Conclusions: The class-based optimism group counseling to the junior high school students gets good result. Through the intervention,the students'optimistic style was changed in certain degree, mental health was improved also.By the analysis of the《Summary of the Class-based optimism group counseling》,《Evaluation for the group counseling activity》and《Evaluation for the guidance teacher》, showed that most of the subjects think the group counseling activity was interesting, and developed in the group.
