A Preliminary Investigation Into The Weihai Dialect

Weihai locates in the northeast of Shandong Peninsula, with Bohai on the east and north, Wendeng county and Rongcheng county on the south and Yantai city on the west. According to Prof. Qian Zengyi's partition of Shandong dialect, Weihai dialect belongs to Dongqi part. Regarding the author's mother tongue-Weihai dialect as a study and basing on field investigation, this thesis did detailed analysis on Weihai dialect mainly from phonology and vocabulary.Firstly, the thesis made a comprehensive introduction of the phonology, phonology characteristics, and phonetic features of the tone sandhi and neutral tone, and enumurated commonly used words with neutral tone as much detail as possible.Secondly, the thesis gathered a great number of verbs and adjectives with local characteristics.Finally, the thesis analyzed "er" phenomena from phonotics, lexicology and grammar in detail.With methods of delineation and contrast, this thesis studied Weihai dialect specializedly and systemicly in the hope of making a contribution to further study.
