Junshan District, Yueyang City, Hunan Province is located in the west of Yueyang City, with Dongting lake in the south, Yangtse River in its north. Junshan District was established in 1996 on the basis of the amalgamation of the state-owned Junshan Farm, the state-owned Qianliang Lake Farm, Jianxin Farm, Junshang Park, and several other towns ,which belonged to Yueyang county, such as Guangxing Zhou Town, Guangxing Zhou Fishery, Tianjin Mount Tree Farm and ect. Now, Junshan District is consituted by one street and six towns, namely Xicheng Street, Liulin Zhou Town, Guangxing Zhou Town, Xushi Town, Qianliang Lake Town, LiangXin Castle Town, Caisang Lake Town. Dialect in this District is numorous and complicated. Junshan dialect discribed in this paper includes the dialect used in Third Fenchang and Forth Fenchang of Xicheng Street and Fifth Fencheng and Sixth Fenchang of Liulin Zhou Town. To date, the study on Junshan dialect is relatively weak. It not only lacks the specific and single report, but also lacks the systematic and thorough research. In view of this, we, on the basis of field investigation, mainly discribe the phonetic system of Junshan dialect. Compared with Xiang dialect, Gan dialect and Southwest Mandarin, we try to reveal the unique phonetic features of Junshan dialect. In addition, we employ the phonetic analysis software to analyze the split of tone categories caused by the syllable ending and present a special subject discussion on this special phenomenon from the perspective of experimental phonetics. We hope all these efforts will be helpful to enrich the study on dialect and offer relatively detailed information for further research concerned. The full thesis falls into five parts altogether. The Introduction Part includes geographical location, population, historical evolution, condition of language use of Junshan dialect briefly. It also introduces the present studies on Junshan dialect and the emphasis and the main purpose of our research. The first chapter describes an account of the phonetic system, the features of initial consonant, compound vowel and tone of Junshan District dialect. The second chapter analyzes the split of tone categories caused by the syllable ending in Junshan District dialect. The third chapter is the syllabary of Junshan District dialect. The fourth chapter makes comparison between Junshan dialect and Xiang dialect, Gan dialect, Southwest Mandarin by using comparative and analytical methods.
