Since the 1970s,the focus of foreign language acquisition research has been shifted from teachers to students. As an influence of this change, learning strategy research has drawn more and more researchers' attention and has shown great potential. Most of these studies are concerned about features of learning strategy use in the Chinese culture and language background;the relationship between learning achievement and strategy use;the differences in strategy use between successful language learners and less successful learners, etc. However, research on language learning strategies in China is still in its early stage.Almost all the subjects in previous researches are English majors while the majority of EFL learners in colleges and universities are non-English majors. This group of college students require more attention.Besides, some scholars in our country proposed that for the majors of traditional culture such as TCM and Chinese classical literature,English should not be a compulsive course. So far, there are not too many researches on this group of students. However, these researches may help not only the teachers in their teaching but also the policy makers in their decision. The present study is meant to make an empirical study on language learning strategies of TCM majors.200 volunteers from Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University take part in the study. The data and information are collected through questionnaire and some interviews.PEMS3.1 software is employed to analyze the data:(1)descriptive analysis about the students' strategy use;(2)differences in strategy use between SLLs and LSLs;(3)differences in strategy use between male students and female students;(4)correlationship between strategy use and CET4 scores. The findings indicate:(1)The frequency of overall strategy use of TCM majors is not high.(2)Differences in strategy use between SLLs and LSLs are significant;(3) Differences in strategy use between male students and female students are evident;(4) Correlationship between strategy use and CET4 scores is significant. Finally, this dissertation investigates the inspirations of the findings and the limitations of this study, based on which further researches will be required.
