Japanese monk, YuanRen, is the messenger of Sino-Chinese cultural exchange in Tang Dynasty. His ten years'experience of seeking for rules in China he strives for the law activity in Tang Dynasty's ten years is important content of the Sino-Japanese Buddhism cultural exchange, which enables him to hold the important position in the Japanese Buddhism history. The non-Buddhism ancient books he brought back to Japan promote Japanese Chinese literature's prosperous. In the ten years, YuanRen contacts social widely , Travel Notes for Rules in Tang Dynasty (Travel Notes for short hereinafter), which was written after he returns to homeland, clarifies right and wrong records in Chinese history books, has the extremely high historical data value. As an authentic record of the Chinese history, this book is now regarded as the most important literature of studying Japanese monk-scholars'activity in China. Qingzhou is the political center of Shandong in Tang Dynasty, has certain foreign management function.YuanRen has obtained qualification and life subsidization in Qingzhou,which was not only the manifestion of Qingzhou's political status , but also the the reason that present paper select this area.At present, there is not special achievement appeared in the study of YuanRen's activity in Qingzhou. With Travel Notes as the major clue and the record of YuanRen as the main research content, through first-hand investigation and the study of the record of Qingzhou in Tang Dynasty in Travel Notes and other important literature, the paper aims to review the social conditions of Qingzhou in Tang Dynasty in the eye of Japanese monk YuanRen.The travel route of YuanRen is the east west road through Shandong peninsula, which was formed in history and had its own characteristics and changes in different periods. As an important link between Shandong peninsula and Zhongyuan, it is a bridge of external exchange, which plays an important role in the relationship of China and northeast Asia. What's more, the paper makes some necessary textual research on some specific place names of Qingzhou in Tang Dynasty involved in Travel Notes, which are a second cognition of regional history and also a clear understanding of the east west route.The record of Qingzhou in Travel Notes is simple, but reflects social life in many aspects,including economy, politics, daily life and so on . Through the recordation of locust disaster and rice price in Kaicheng period recorded in Travel Notes and a comparison with other historical materials and other regions, the paper makes a general investigation on the economic development of Qingzhou in some specific aspect. In politics, the paper lays its emphasis on the management of minorities, the setup of Bohai Guan, the appearance of Xinluo Yuan and the existence of minority envoy, which show the important role that Qingzhou plays in the foreign affairs. Also, the paper tries to investigate the way of managing the foreigners in Tang Dynasty through the contact between YuanRen and the officials in Qingzhou. Concerning the daily life involved in Travel Notes, the paper makes a necessary discussion on the living habits, recreational activities and some other customs of the people in that period. The attitude of civilians towards YuanRen recorded in Travel Notes shows the accepting state of Buddhism, living conditions and the local traits in this region. And the discussion of Longxing Temple shows the development of Buddhism in Qingzhou.The text explanation of Travel Notes can deepen the understanding of YuanRen's activity in Tang Dynasty and verificate the basic situation and the important position of Qingzhou, also deepen the place history's research..
