| Since the twentieth century, English has become an obligatory tool for communication with the development of the communication among the nations in the world and a more frequent communication among all the people across the globe. Especially after China's entry into WTO, Chinese have more and more opportunities to communicate with foreigners. Moreover, people come to realize the importance of the spoken English. It is also the demand of the society to train the vocational school students' preliminary ability of spoken English. However, the current situation is far beyond satisfaction. The vocational school students have little interest in spoken English. Most of them are poor at oral English, unwilling, even unable to express themselves in simple English. Students' communicative competence is unsatisfactory and can not meet the needs of society. So it's high time to make a transformation in teaching approaches and focus on oral abilities. In the current situation, Communicative Approach has exerted profound influence on English teaching and learning in China when traditional teaching methods are no longer considered appropriate for English teaching. Many linguists and teachers consider Communicative Approach as an effective way to solve the problems existing in the teaching and learning process. So it is necessary for the vocational school teachers to implement Communicative Approach into oral English teaching.In this paper, the author tries to analyze the past and the present state of the oral English teaching in the vocational schools, and then gives a general introduction to the Communicative Approach so as to discuss the application of this kind of method to the spoken English teaching in vocational schools. The results of the application show that the application of Communicative Approach will improve students' spoken English, as well as communicative competence. |
