A Study On The Model Images Of Women In HaiYan's Novels

HaiYan, one of the most popular, prolific and celebrated writers in modern China, has exerted a great influence on literary and art circles. With his novels popular for over ten years, there has been"HaiYan Phenomenon". Based on others'research, this paper analyses the female images in his novels and the characteristics of their models from the gender angle so as to search for the key to his success.This paper consists of introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction gives a literature review of domestic research on HaiYan's novels and points out the significance of the analysis from feminist angle. In the body, the first part divides the women appeared in his novels into mystical enchantress, virtuous angel and unyielding devil with reference to their thoughts and characters in order to further study their distinctive features through mythology criticism as well as the writer's value orientation. The second part emphasizes the special functions of these three groups of women in the love model by the relationship between man and woman, which not only create a modern, artistic, tragic and realistic love but also distinguish HaiYan's novels from ordinary love stories. The third part states the importance of those female images to HaiYan's novels, through which the writer himself expresses his advanced attitudes toward women and his beautiful dream and make his novels both artistic and commercial. The conclusion part elaborates personal opinions about how to build the female images in HaiYan's novels in the future.
