This thesis aims at exploring the internal mechanism and the process of meaning construction of metaphor in English advertisements from the theoretical perspective of conceptual integration in cognitive linguistics.Based on a brief review of previous studies of metaphor in English advertisements at home and abroad and with Fauconnier's conceptual integration theory as the framework, which has been proved to be powerful in the interpretation of on-line meaning of metaphor, I adopt the qualitative method to carry out the research. After the metaphorical advertisements from the magazines have been selected and classified, the typical samples are analyzed respectively in the four types of conceptual integration network.Through the analysis, this thesis proves the great interpretative power of conceptual integration theory, which has implications for metaphorical language teaching and translation of metaphor in English advertisements and will help people to understand the meaning of metaphor better, and enrich their knowledge in advertisements. Hopefully this research could contribute to the future studies within the theoretical frame of conceptual integration.
