Object identification is a whole process of the object. To a large extent,it depends on individual knowledge and experience.Object recognition is a process of matching sensory information which enters into the human brain to the information storage in long-term memory system.Color is a significant characteristic of objects, plays an important role in object recognition. We conducted two experiments to explore the effects of different modes of binding between study and test on recognizing colored natural objects and their names. Seventeen collage students participated in experiment 1.In study phase involve the participant completing a color-object decision task(i.e.,deciding whether an object is correctly colored). In test phase participants were required to recognize objects that had appeared in the earlier study phase, irrespective of their color. In experiment 2, fifteen collage students participated. In study phase involve the participant were required to decide the color of object's name was agree with the color of object. In test phase participants were required to recognize object's names that had appeared in the earlier study phase, irrespective of their color. The reaction time and the ERPs were recorded as dependent variables.Result indicated that:(1) The important role of color in recognition involves both perception and semantics. For color decision, color helps the system to identify objects. For object identification, color may be stored as part of the semantic representations of an object knowledge, which may be activated in cases where it resembles the perceptual input(surface color) presented to the visual system and in turn result in memory facilitation.(2) There is different priming between the binding exists in long-term memory and the new binding formed temporarily, the former enhances the memory representation of objects, the later may be a cognitive burden of memory.(3) There was a consistency effects on names identification, noted that the color had an effect on the semantic representation of objects. This finding was consistent with the Spreading Activation Model.
