On The Legitimacy Of Nanjing Regime Before The Anti-Japanese War

The Fujian Incident,Guangdong and Guangxi Incident and the Xi'an Incident are three important domestic political events before the Anti-Japanese War was triggered.Having a long history,ShenBao whose standpoint is fair to some extent has been preserved integrated.So ShenBao is one of the important materials in studying Chinese modern history.In the paper we would look into the national mentality at the time by the help of the news reports during the above incidents;we also would put the domestic political situation in the vast complex circumstance of Japanese invasion in order to testify the political legitimacy of Nanjing regime before the Anti-Japanese War;apart from having significant academic values the paper was helpful for understanding the current discourse of nationalismTaking the public opinions during the Fujian Incident,Guangdong and Guangxi Incident and the Xi'an Incident as an entry point for public opinion,we first study the trends of public opinions in the three events to reveal people's true attitude,and then we make a detailed analysis on the Japanese invasion and the connection between Japanese invasion and people's attitude at that time.The public opinions including ShenBao after the Fujian Incident occurred,demonstrated the fact that most people opposed the incident and appealed Nanjing Government on putting it down rapidly;while during the Guangdong and Guangxi Incident, although the anti-Japanese slogans have been sympathetic to the people, most populace do not approve on the event,Guangdong and Guangxi Incident's supporters are rare.After the outbreak of the Xi'an Incident,the people mostly condemned Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng and appeal on peace solution;we rarely seen its supporters.Taking into account Nanjing authority's news control policy including the "declaration" of the media,the reports of the incident may not be detached completely neutral as it may stand on their own interests and the environment of rational consideration;but from "Declaration" and the public opinion tendency at that time we can find that in facing Japan's aggression most people have already entrusted their own nationalism demand on the Nanjing political power。The history paradox is that: Fujian Incident,Guangdong and Guangxi Incident and Xi'an Incident have been enshrined by the slogan that "resist against Japan and save the nation from extinction";the above incidents should have occupied the commanding heights of public mobilization and nationalism in the era, but in fact they have departed from the slogans of "resist against Japan and save the nation from extinction" and" unification can resist invasion ",the national point of view to contradict,thus they lack support in terms of public opinions.The Japanese factor plays an important role in the China nation-state slow production and in the difficult construction historic process.Japan invasion already brings the stem challenge to the Nanjing regime;it also provides the opportunity for the Nanjing regime to use the nationalism conformity domestic resources" unification" can "resist invasion ",This mainstream value of the incident before the war of public opinion has been fully demonstrated。Any incident at that time would be doubted for personal or a party' s interests regardless of the three events differences and similarities in terms of their inner essence and the slogans they proclaimed;whether the principles they hold can finally save China from extinction or not,the three incidents can not be generally supported and they can not eliminate the legitimacy of the Nanjing regime.
