| Tencent QQ,the widest-used online instant chatting software among Chinese internet users, typifies various online communication ways with the medium of network in the present network information age.While using QQ,Internet users get their QQ nicknames.A QQ nickname is a kind of net name.Studies on QQ nickname are found rare and researches of QQ nicknames from the perspective of sociolinguistics have not yet been seen up to now.This thesis,therefore, explores certain linguistic and social issues of QQ nicknames in view of sociolinguistics, applying sampling and statistical method in accordance of the collected corpus.Through statistical classification,the collected 3,000 QQ nicknames can be formally divided into 6 types(pure Chinese characters;Chinese Pinyin;foreign letters;numbers;symbols; compounds) and in content 10 types(expressing sentiment;perception of life;love of nature; personal likes and dislikes;idyllic style;chapter and verse;etc).Characteristics of QQ nicknames are discussed afterwards.Compared with real names of persons,they bear the characteristics of various forms,content arbitrariness,identity concealment,changing at will.In contrast with generic net names,they possess the traits of wide range,large amount,revealing more personal information,better propaganda effect,differing according to communication purposes.QQ nicknames are then analyzed from the angle of phonetics,grammar and rhetoric respectively.The effect of QQ users' name,sex,profession and education level to the naming of the QQ nicknames are emphatically discussed.The main conclusion of this part is that forms and content of QQ nicknames differ according to different age,profession and education level while they have little correlation with sex.QQ nicknames contain profound national culture and embody QQ users' multifarious social cultural psychology.QQ nicknames' change and development trend are also mentioned at the end of the thesis.
