This thesis which focuses on the characteristic of < La Vie de Henry Brulard > takesthe innovation of Stendhal's autobiography as the key point. With such foundation, theauthor contributes her efforts on the differences between the < La Vie de HenryBrulard > and the < Les Confessions >, reaching a conclusion of Stendhal'scontribution with regards to the contemporary autobiography in the process ofresearch.The preface puts forward the status-quo of the research of Stendhal's work home andabroad as well as the basis for this chosen topic. The first chapter analyzes how theauthor recalls his memory with the help of vision and audition. The second chapteranalyzes the writing features from linguistic and writing style perspective.Comparison of < La Vie de Henry Brulard > are also made in the second chapter. Thethird chapter explains si's innovation in autobiography by comparing Stendhal'sandRousseau's narration to the same type matter.As other fictions, si created an autobiography which is different from his age withbold innovation. This autobiography is characterized by seeking for the true one evenat the expense of losing shining points. This style is of great importance to thedevelopment of contemporary autobiography.
