Chinese folk art is colorful, extensive and profound, different historical, liberal and natural condition of each nation forming characteristic folk arts. Folk art in Shandong area is one of important regional folk art with feature of unique and distinct. Nourished by Qilu Culture, Shandong folk art forming its feature of naturalness and vigorous, moreover, with great variety, developing its own school in Chinese folk art.In 20^th century, China went through an unprecedented social transformation, especially after reform and open to the outside world, social transformation is speed up. With establishment of national modern industrial system, small-scale peasant economy is replaced by large agricultural production, Chinese entered into the industrial society. In this background, native Chinese folk art came across unprecedented corner. In new times, traditional folk art embarked on a long winding road, which is inheritance and innovation. Shandong folk art has feature of representative, it is a more broad way to study Chinese folk art through the study towards inheritance and innovation of Shandong folk art.This study starting from relationship between folk art and modern design art, using scientific research method and combining folk art, sociology and fine arts, deeply study modern inheritance and innovation of Shandong folk art. This study can be divided into 4 parts:Part 1 research background, relevant research condition; illustrate purpose, meaning and basic thought of this study.Part 2 deeply discuss relationship between folk art and modern design art, define their concept and provide a bridge to combination of above two, make following analysis with fundamental basis. In addition, it analyzed inevitability and importance of combination of folk art and modern design art from two sides.Part 3 Sort out variety, characteristics and existence condition of Shandong folk art in an all-round way, analyze formative factors of those characteristics and scout for distinct classical elements.Part 4 deeply analyze inheritance and innovation of Shandong folk art. Analyze essence of transformation, ascertain inheritance route and develop creative mode. Take Yangjiabu New Year Picture as an example, tentatively analyze possibility of combination of Shandong folk art and modern design art.Part 5 summarize conclusion of this study, meanwhile put forward further proposal to development of Shandong folk art.From above research we can find that society need folk art creative and folk art itself also need to be creative. Protection of folk art should be active and exoteric rather than uninformed. Only innovation can make folk art exist in modern times. Nowadays, design art has become an important industry in our country. Achievement of modern design is commonly accepted by all sectors of the community and closely related with the life of the people.At the same time, modern design art bring people into a totally different visual world and change our aesthetic standards. Meanwhile folk art and design art are closely connected. No matter from formative technique or invent talent, there are no obstacles between both parties, this also provide a direct root for inheritance and innovation of folk art in modern society. In fact, inheritance of folk art is actually inheritance of element, which include visual element, cultural element, creative element and etc. Combination of folk art and modern design art can reserve cream of folk art as well as develop national characteristics of modern design art. Therefore, this should be a long-term study.
